The Mohanlal Show 2007 in Washington, D.C turned into a major disappointment. This event was presented by New Jersey-based Tara Arts (
http://www.taraarts.com ) and hosted by DC-based Spicy America. As the stage show went underway without much excitement as expected from past Mohanlal stage performances, the actor himself came on to the stage to perform his first singing gig. Fans noticed, rather amazingly that Mohanlal was performing on stage to prerecorded songs, sung by him.
Now the art of lip-synching (sometimes known as lip singing) would not be a surprise in Malayalam movies, and for an actor like Mohanlal, he could probably do it in his sleep. But it was astonishing to see in front of a live audience that their favorite actor Mohanlal would do such a callous act repeatedly. Fans felt deceived by his so-called live performance especially when they paid high prices for the tickets to watch their favorite actor lip-sync to prerecorded songs.
Also, the sponsors of the event, Tara Arts & Spicy America kindly forgot to mention the absence of actress Mamta Mohandas. Even after repeated requests by various fans from the audience, the organizers did not care to acknowledge the request. To add, the director of the show Mr. Joshi was not present at the event. This is false advertisement against the fans about Mamta's and Joshi's presence at the show.
Although the fans were misled constantly, they anxiously looked forward to the comedy facet of the show. Once again, to their disappointment the performers acted out something used in many previous shows, offering nothing that is original to the audience. Understandably, the fans reacted as they were not deceived once, but several times. One of the fans who were sitting in the back row stood up and told Megastar Mohanlal that it was immoral of him to sing to his prerecorded songs as nobody wants to be tricked by a celebrity they admire. He was angered by this remark and left the stage; also, the audience naturally mocked his mediocre performance by laughing.
A few minutes later, police and security came into the auditorium as per request of the organizers to force the audience to sit down and remain calm. This was extremely unjust as they were in the back row enjoying the show, and not blocking anyone's view of the stage. Moreover, the fans paid money to watch a high-quality program, and they were not given that quality. Thus, they reacted by commenting on it, but did not cause any sort of violent acts. However, the police intervened further by escorting a group of 30 or more fans out of the facility.
The group of fans left the vicinity calmly without causing any disturbance to the program. Nevertheless, these individuals felt that they had the right to know why they were escorted out of a show they paid for. Hence, they contacted a local organizer Babu (owner of Spicy America) regarding this incident. Babu told them that he was not involved in calling the police or requesting them to force the group out of the facility. He confirmed that the call for this enforcement was initiated by Vijayan Menon (president of Tara Arts) as per request of Megastar Mohanlal. This is completely appalling because this actor is a professional, and as a professional he has to admit his mistakes rather than reacting in such an immature manner. Mohanlal's fans portray him as a man of dignity but he disappointed them in so many ways.
To conclude, the fans of the Megastar deserve a well thought out apology by Mohanlal himself, Tara Arts, and the local organizer who is the owner of Spicy America. This was a very demeaning act because the organizers and performers of the show disrespected the fans. It needs to be mentioned that Megastar Mohanlal and other actors are enjoying their fame as the result of these audiences and fans all around the world. They shouldn't take advantage of that respect.
