Typing in regional languages of India on digital devices, has always a challenge. people are using multitap (means pressing a key 6-8 times to type a character) or dictionary based approach. which is quite time taking and painful for thumb. 
friends recently i have been through a software called "PaniniKeypad" which allows people to type in Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam & Punjabi etc. on existing phone without changing the keypad.
millions of mobile phone users in India having different kinds of phone, out of which majority of people who doesn't knows English. so there is a big problem of texting in that langauge. 
PaniniKeypad will help to resolve this problem of texting in different languages of India, on different operating systems. PaniniKeypad also offers transliteration between languages suppose you type something in Tamil and convert in to Hindi and send it. 
How to type:
The usability of PaniniKeypad is quite simple and easy.
Look for your characters on screen and press the indicated numeric button on keypad. if its touch screen phone directly go for touch.
Press Next List button for more characters on screen.
Putting space between the words single press the "0" button, for making Purnavirama press twice the "0" button.
In indian language writing system we are using half letters, conjunct characters or Kootaksharm. for making all these types of characters put Halant akshar or Chandrakala in Malayalam, between the two consonants. and these characters will form automatically.
Type in Malayalam:
ശ്രദ്ധ= ശ+്+ര+ദ+്+ധ
ക്ഷേത്രം=ക+്+ഷ+േ+ത+്+ര+ം
ബുദ്ധി = ബ+ു+ദ+്+ധ+ി
ജ്ഞാനം= ജ+്+ഞ+ാ+ന+ം
വിദ്യ = വ+ി+ദ+്+യ
Type in Tamil:
விஷ்ணு=வ+ி+ஷ+்+ண+ு
லக்ஷ்மி=ல+க+்+ஷ+்+ம+ி
சிருஷ்டி=ச+ி+ர+ு+ஷ+்+ட+ி
ஸ்ரீலங்கா=ஸ+்+ர+்+ல+ங+்+க+ா
பக்ஷி=ப+க+்+ஷ+ி
Halant akshar always appear Red in color.
The another thing that i liked in PaniniKeypad software is the characters prediction, when you start typing one by one characters will appear on screen.
Each characters having different colour scheme, like vowels are in blue, consonants are in Brown and dependent vowels are in Black colour.
